Why Choose
S&S Family Pet Hospital

Introducing S&S Family Pet Hospital – A New Era in Veterinary Care.

We choose to emphasis on wellness, the following features distinguish us from others

The S&S Difference

1. Independent Ownership

We proudly stand as a local, family-owned small business dedicated to delivering high-quality care to our community. Our commitment differentiates us from corporate-owned practices

2. Laparoscopic Spays

We are the only practice in San Antonio offering a less painful laparoscopic spay. We’ve invested time, training, and resources to provide a more comfortable, less invasive procedure.

3. Modern Vaccine Protocols

Our vaccination protocols align with the latest guidelines published by AAHA and AAFP. We prioritize the scientific basis behind best vaccination practices.

4. Annual Cancer Screening

Our multimodal program is aimed at detecting cancer in pets before it progresses to clinical illness. We provide chest X-rays, next-generation abdominal ultrasounds, and laboratory testing at a reduced price to make these crucial tests more affordable.

5. Gold Standard Dentistry

It is difficult for a lay-person to compare apples to apples when it comes to animal dentistry. But here is one statistic: 80% of teeth that are extracted in vet hospitals are done wrong – leaving root tips behind. We perform “gold standard” dentistry which includes taking full mouth X-rays before and after an extraction to ensure the entire tooth is removed. This is just one piece of better dentistry and why we have better outcomes.

6. Modern, Safe Anesthesia

The safety and quality of anesthesia varies widely from place to place. This is why you have heard stories about dogs and cats dying under anesthesia. When anesthesia is administered well, and modern, safe anesthetic drugs, monitoring devices, and well-qualified people are in place, the risk of an unexpected fatal complication is less than one-tenth of one percent. Places that offer cut-rate prices on anesthetic procedures are cutting expenses somewhere. We prioritize safe anesthesia practices to minimize the risk of unexpected complications.

7. Multi-Modal Pain Control

Pain prevention is the most effective way of treating and controlling pain. Single agent pain control is not as effective because pain is conducted by multiple pathways in the body.
Our approach to pain management combines multiple strategies tailored to each procedure’s anticipated pain level. These include opioid medications, local anesthesia, continuous rate infusions, injectable NSAIDs, monoclonal antibody treatments, and oral medications. 8.Minimally-Invasive Procedures: Apart from laparoscopic spays, we offer minimally-invasive techniques for various procedures, such as preventative gastropexy, cryptorchid surgery, liver biopsies, endoscopic foreign body removal, colonoscopy, and cystoscopy, ensuring reduced pain and quicker recovery times.

9. Wellness Plans

You’ve probably heard it said that prevention is the best medicine. We agree. Our Roadmap to Lifelong Health is a comprehensive wellness program aimed at maximizing your pet’s life-long health. Our PAWSS wellness plans include all recommended steps, making it easy for you to follow. Because we believe these steps are so important, and it is our goal to have as many of our patients go through this program as possible, it is significantly discounted to help make wellness available to everyone.

10. Team Medicine with a Focus on Education

Our approach includes you as an essential part of the decision-making process, which fosters collaboration and better outcomes. We do our best to educate you so you can better understand our recommendations and make informed decisions about your pet’s care.

11. Board-Certified Specialists

For more specialized care, we provide access to board-certified specialists in radiology, cardiology, and surgery.

12. In-House Diagnostics

We often can’t wait until tomorrow to find out what is causing your pet’s problem. Because both speed and accuracy are important, we maintain the industry's best in-house blood work analyzers. We also have digital radiographs, digital dental radiographs, and next-generation ultrasound to help us come to the diagnosis faster and more accurately. Heska Telecytology allows us to digitally submit cytology samples (lumps, bumps, lymph nodes, and more) to a board-certified pathologist and have results within the hour.

13. Giving Back

We’ve established The Goody Fund, a non-profit dedicated to helping pets in need receive essential care. We regularly donate to various charitable organizations, both inside and outside the veterinary community.

14. Home Away from Home

Our lobby is designed to resemble a family living room, providing a more welcoming environment. Also, we conscientiously avoid wearing white or bright colors, which can induce anxiety in pets.
